Samsung seems to be the leaders in terms of touchscreen technology. They tried to introduce touchscreen phones before Apple but it seems like Apple started the touch screen trend that is going on today. Much like their mission statement (that i wrote) the Haptic phones have become more of a "luxury" phone in Korea. Selling for around $700 a unit, these phones are top of the line and they don't disappoint.

With the recent partnering with Google for the first Android Samsung phone, it seems like Samsung is motivated to eliminate the Iphone in the Korean market. Creating the "haptic android" brand is something that Samsung is trying to do. Koreans are known to love brand names and Anycall has been a top line brand for over a decade. They won't stop now.

The Haptic phone is still marketed towards young Adults. Even though they succeeded in turning the haptic line into a "luxury" line, young adults love this phone for what it does. It can do everything a young adult could ask for and with it's sexy designs, Haptic phones are the craze in Korea. They are such a craze that many small businesses and internet shopping malls in Korea buy Haptic phones in bulk and give them away in prizes to promote their business.

Samsung uses demographic segmentation for it's products. Age seems to be a big thing in Korea. The 20-30 age group seem to set and follow the popular trends in Korea. That is why when a new Haptic phone comes out, a popular boy band or girl band would promote it rather then some regular singer. The one exception was Yuna Kim. She was known as Queen Yuna due to the fact that her popularity among every age group was so popular that she was almost like a Queen.

She proved that she was in fact Queen Yuna when her phone, the Yuna Haptic, sold a record number million units in it's debut back in 2009. Due to a phone's popularity life cycle being very short in Korea, most phones don't sell even close to a million units.

This comes to show that Samsung knows what they are doing in the advertising sector. Using celebrity endorsements to endorse their more "everyman" phones, Samsung has had great results. Most of the time they would get a Musical artist to make a song as well as endorse the phone model.

Public Relations is also something Samsung seems to be doing very well. Several years back when HD TV's were first coming out, everyone knew Samsung was the best one. Everyone knew that because everyone knew Samsung was the leading manufacturer in that sector. Samsung also sponsors major sporting events such as the Olympics which are watched around the world.

Most of these Haptic phones go for around $700 a pop. Even though they are expensive, Koreans love brand names and they can't get enough of Samsung phones. Due to the fact that the phone requires a service plan by a phone service provider, many phone service providers offer a deal where you can get a Haptic phone for a lot cheaper. The price is always effected by which service provider you are with.

The phones are also sold by the service providers as Samsung does not own it's own store to sell all of it's products. It is not Apple. In Korea, the service providers such as SK telecom sell Samsung phones at their stores. Same goes in the U.S market. Service providers such as Verizon sell phones at their service locations.

The North American market seems to be dominated by other phones such as the Iphone. Samsung is the leading manufactorer of touchscreen phones in the U.S with so many models that I have lost count, but it terms of sales per model, the Iphone takes the cake. Samsung isn't just lying around while Apple dominates. Along with the first Google OS powered Haptic phone, Samsung also teamed up with Microsoft and put Windows Mobile on the Haptic AMOLED phone.

Samsung is a Global brand. They sell their phones all over the world. In Korea they even went further by branding their cellphones with a different name; Anycall phones. Also by partnering up with Yuna Kim, her brand and the Samsung Anycall brand created the highest selling phone in Korean history.

All in all, Samsung is dominating the local market. Even in the worldwide market it seems to be doing very well even though it isn't the leader. Hey it is hard to try and beat Apple when it comes to marketing. I'd have to say they weren't beaten by much as they are still releasing great products in the U.S market to compete with the Iphone. I can't wait until Verizon decides to pick up a Android powered Samsung Haptic phone because I will defiantly be getting one.

Concepts Number 2

If you look at the top right hand corner of the ad you see the Anycall logo. If you remember from before, Anycall is the cellphone department for Samsung specifically in Korea. LG also uses a different brand for their phones in Korea. Cyon is the name of their brand. As you know in most asian cultures, buying brand name merchandise is a big thing. A status symbol in a society where everyone wants to be on top. With this Anycall brand comes a lot of brand loyalty. All my cousins who originally had a Anycall phone only buy Anycall. While Some of my friends in Korea flip flop from one phone to another based on the current popularity.

Samsung has gone even further by creating the AMOLED brands. If you look at the middle of this picture you see the AMOLED symbol. They want people to know that this phone is a AMOLED phone so they created a very noticeable logo different from the other 2. They didn't really do this for the Haptic phones so it seems to be a new tactic by Samsung.

Samsung is a worldwide brand and if your Korean, your more likely to by Samsung. Loyalty to the brand goes further back then customer satisfaction. It's the fact that a company from their home nation is doing so well and becoming leaders of technology. Samsung was once the only distributor of the HD chip used in our high-def T.Vs.

Gold Medal figure skater Yuna Kim has turned herself into a brand. After putting her name on a Haptic phone, it was the most purchased phone in Korean history. Recently she participated in a ice skating show and instead of calling it Fiesta on Ice which was the actual title of the show, people called it Yuna's Fiesta on ice. Her popularity has turned her into a brand in South Korea and I can't wait until the 2 brands work together again to release another phone.

The Haptic Phone line is a product line of the huge Samsung Electronics Company. In the Korean/Asian market, Samsung gave themselves a brand name. Anycall is what Samsung phones are known as in the Korean/Asian Market. When you say you have a Anycall phone, people know it has great durability, great features and sleek design. Within the Haptic line there are many product items. One of which is the Haptic 2(pictured to the left). It was one of the many Haptic phones that got planned obsolescence. Samsung slowly changed the design of each of their new haptic phones and added 1 or 2 small features and sold them even though the older model was still not out of date. 6 months after the release of the Haptic 2, Samsung Anycall released the Yuna Haptic, which was just a redesigned version of the Haptic 2 with a diary and sponsered by Korean figure skater Yuna Kim. Several months after that Samsung released the Haptic AMOLED (which is now a new product line because it uses better touch screen technology).

A specialty phones that isn't a planned obsolescence is the Haptic Beam. The Hapic Beam is a regular Haptic phone but a mobile projector. A unique phone that sets itself apart from the other Haptic phones. Recently Samsung Anycall released the AMOLED Beam which is a product modification of the Haptic Beam.

Samsung is a Global Brand. It's phones are sold all over the world and they are the number 2 mobile phone maker in the world. If you didn't own a Iphone, you would most likely have a Samsung. Recently Samsung has teamed up with Google to release Haptic phones with the Android OS. Maybe one day Samsung might use individual branding like they have in Korea with Anycall(the Cellphone division of Samsung for the Korean Market).
